These homeowners came to us with a desire to update the front entry of their home to give greater curb appeal and also allow them to enjoy their front porch. They knew they wanted a portico and to replace their front door with 8' double doors.
The project began with a complete replacement of all the concrete, as a revised step layout was required to accommodate the new column bases. After working through a few design ideas for the portico, we arrived at this design with a classic, simple structure including exposed beams and bracing. A stained tongue and groove ceiling in the portico lends a nice warm touch to the finishes and coordinated nicely with the stained fiberglass double doors. The simple beveled glass design in the doors was a great way to let in ample amounts of light and add a bit of visual interest without the risk of ever looking outdated.
